Lycus – Demo MMXI (Demo)


Funeral doom outfit Lycus again sold me with the cover art, as a lot of bands have been doing recently. This artwork is pretty cool, depicting some kind of sheep made of bones. Lycus originates from the bay area, and they play some dark, sulky doom metal. Demo MMXI is their demo tape, released in 2011. This tape has three songs to give you a good idea of what you are in for, and is a decent release. (more…)

Funeral – From These Wounds

From These Wounds is Funeral’s fourth full length album and continues their style of gothic-laden funeral doom. From These Wounds is an album you need to be in the mood for in order to manage getting through the entire thing, as is probably the case with a lot of funeral doom, or doom metal in general. All of the songs are quite similar with lots of slow, heavy distorted guitars, and very monotone vocals from Frode Forsmo.
