Machinemade God – Masked

Metalcore is a genre that I used to be into quite a bit. I haven’t checked out any recent metalcore albums in the last few years, but was  going through my music the other day and ran across Machinemade God’s Masked. Years ago, I would listen to this album all of the time. I have decided to revisit this album and it still holds up great today. Machinemade God is (was?) a metalcore/melodic death metal band from Germany who had released two albums on Metal Blade Records. While their first album The Infinity Complex was a boring, uninspired album, their following album Masked is leaps beyond that. Released in 2007, Masked can be best compared to Killswitch Engage or As I Lay Dying in the same time period. In fact, if you are a fan of either of those bands, then this album is something you should be looking into. There are twelve songs on this album, and every one of them contains catchy instrumentals and typical metalcore vocals of alternating screaming and clean singing. Voices would be one of my top choices on the album, which really encompasses all that I have explained. Vocalists Florian Velten and Sky Hoff intertwine vocal styles in this one, which the track begins with a relentless introduction and continues on with a melodically vibrant chorus. My favorite track on the album is Next To Me which Velten sticks with his screaming vocals throughout. The song starts out with pounding riffs, interesting lead guitar work, and crushing vocals. Overall, if you are interested in checking out an almost unknown metalcore band with actual talent,  you can’t go wrong with Machinemade God. Hopefully they will put out another, even better album in the future.
