Machinemade God – Masked

Metalcore is a genre that I used to be into quite a bit. I haven’t checked out any recent metalcore albums in the last few years, but was  going through my music the other day and ran across Machinemade God’s Masked. Years ago, I would listen to this album all of the time. I have decided to revisit this album and it still holds up great today. (more…)

In Flames – Siren Charms

Never has a band fallen as far as In Flames from what they once were. Hailed as one of the pioneers of melodic death metal and the “Gothenburg” sound, In Flames has always held a special place for me. They shaped my destiny years ago when I had first delved into the genre. Here I stand, 10 years later, and find myself grimacing at the thought of a new album. (more…)

Shade Empire – Sinthetic

36887

From Finland, Shade Empire is a heavily keyboard driven melodic death/black metal band. The band plays a pretty intense/epic sounding style of metal, in which the keyboards are the strongest part on the album. By the way, Sinthetic is also their debut album.  I had started listening to this album around 2006, and just came back to it recently. I had listened constantly prior, and now that I am coming back to it I can see why. (more…)

Before The Dawn – 4:17am

4:17am is Before The Dawn’s sophomore album, and is another good effort by the band. This album does give you more of the same sound as My Darkness, their first album, but is a little more refined. I do believe the album has a better sound to it, if even by a small margin. Panu Willman’s vocals have improved quite a bit, which his voice sounds much more solid and carries better. Saukkonen’s growls are still the same, just as great as ever. The album has a much better produced sound, which is good, but the songs (more…)

Enslavement of Beauty – Mere Contemplations

Dramatic death metal may be the best term to describe this band, Enslavement of Beauty from Norway. Mere Contemplations is their 3rd studio album, and is a very good album. I had been driving across the country when I first started listening to this album years ago, and it was a great first experience with it. The songs have very dramatic riffing and lyrics throughout, and sounds as though the album is trying to tell some poetic story. Ole Alexander Myrholt, vocalist has a shrilly deep scream sound, that almost (more…)

Omnium Gatherum – Beyond

Wow, this album is amazing. Everything, from the atmosphere, instrumentation, and overall power this album has. Omnium Gatherum is a melodic death metal band out of Finland, who excel at the art of making badass music that flows well, has strong clear melodeath vocals, and gives you a sense of awe while hearing it. Beyond is their 6th studio album, and is everything I want out of an album, it has strong powerful riffing, great epic solos, death metal screaming throughout, and sounds out of this world. Really, I do not (more…)
