Seems like just yesterday I had first heard of Urfaust. I can’t remember exactly how I crossed paths with this band, as it was around the same time I was getting into Circle of Ouroborus, but holy shit is Urfaust amazing. From the Netherlands comes a two piece atmospheric black metal band of the most badass variety. Ritual Music For The True Clochard is a compilation album released in 2012 that contains various tracks from other releases by the group, and damn strong ones at that. 10 raw, black and brutal songs fill this release. Amazing moments are around every corner. Ragnarok Mystiker is a great start, filled with repetitive black metal with easy listenability. The vocals on this release are interesting with some moaned singing, shrieks and yells sprinkled throughout. Vocalist IX’s voice is awesome, normally higher in tone with loads of clear singing. It is just pure badass, plain and simple. Dammert, Gelahmt Und Mit Scheinbar Erloschenem Geist is probably my favorite track, and actually the first song I had ever heard by Urfaust. The music on it is mysterious, dark, and foreboding. Vocals are shrouded in a chilling facade of moans and hums. Unter Tochtern Der Wuste follows, again with an amazing style and sound. This track is just awesome. This release is superb, and anyone looking into some unique black metal would find this worth their time. Not to mention, the cover on this album is an excellent work of art itself and very cool. Definitely worth more than a few listens.
